Dunk of the Night caps off Rose's big game

Derrick helped the Bulls to a 115-104 victory last night over the Phoenix Suns, but his 32 points meant more on this night than most others. Before the game Derrick pledged to donate $1,000 per point he scored to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, in order to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Derrick and a number of other players represented by the Wasserman Media Group teamed up with the former presidents to raise over a half million dollars.

“It’s just giving,” he said. “I know that God has blessed me. He’s blessed me already. You see me right here I’m with the Bulls. He blessed me a lot and I’m going to give his blessing to some of the people that’s over there in Haiti.

“The season’s going on [so] I couldn’t make a trip over there,” Rose said before Friday’s game. “I know I can do something. I’m not just going to sit back and let the people over there be helpless, so I want to give.”

Derrick’s dunk capped off an impressive scoring night that saw him top the 30-point mark for the 4th time in just over a month.

While Derrick is always happy to play well and win, this game meant more to him as it offered a chance to really help those in need.

“They need it right now,” Rose said. “The Haiti people, I feel for them. ... I’m happy that I gave it to them.”
