Rose to assist Haiti with points against Suns

Derrick Rose likes to say he’s a pass-first guard who only tries to take over games offensively if the need is there.

But one could excuse the Bulls’ guard if he shot every time he touched it tonight against the Suns.

Rose joined a huge initiative created by the Wasserman Media Group, which has 47 NBA players as clients, to donate a minimum of $500,000 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. President Clinton will announce the program at halftime of tonight’s Knicks-Lakers game, and Rose is one of 10 clients who plans to donate $1,000 for every point scored.

“It means a lot to me to help out,” Rose said. “That situation is part of all of us, the world period. It makes you feel good to donate and help others. I’m a caring guy so that’s something that really hurt me.”

Rose joked that he indeed planned to shoot more because “the more I score, the more I help out.”
The Wasserman Media Group initiative, which also featured unspecified contributions from Bulls rookie James Johnson and former Bull Ben Wallace, is just one of many philanthropic efforts to assist Haiti across the sports landscape.
