Rose holding up while Bulls look for fourth in a row

Derrick Rose was able to go through the Bulls’ full practice Monday and will play tonight when the road trip continues in Houston.

Rose was treated Sunday for a sprained left foot, an injury that bothered him last week and flared Saturday after a couple of dunks in a victory at Phoenix. Rose asked out of the game twice because of soreness and sat out the final 6:42.

‘‘I’m doing well, the body is holding up,’‘ Rose said after practice. ‘‘Got some rest, got treatment, iced it, took some pills. I’m doing fine.

‘‘It felt good. Not bothering me. I didn’t get no dunks today.’‘

Rose isn’t taking the dunk out of his repertoire.

‘‘Next fast break,’‘ he said of his plan to dunk again. ‘‘We need that. We feed off that, so I’m going to try to keep doing that.’‘

Drew Gooden, who has missed the last seven games because of an abdominal/groin injury, went through most of practice but is not expected to play tonight or Wednesday at New Orleans.

‘‘I took him out three-quarters [through] the practice and said that was enough,’‘ coach Vinny Del Negro said. ‘‘He’s feeling better but still is not there yet. I don’t want him to come back and re-injure himself. The groin can be a difficult area, so hopefully he can work and get back in soon.

‘‘If I had to speculate, I’m hoping for [Saturday at] Dallas. If it comes sooner, that’s even better.’‘

Rose will participate in the Skills Challenge on Feb. 14 as part of All-Star weekend in Phoenix. He will compete against New Jersey’s Devin Harris, Orlando’s Jameer Nelson and San Antonio’s Tony Parker in a two-round timed obstacle course with dribbling, passing and shooting stations.

Rose, however, is more concerned with helping the Bulls improve on their 3-1 trip. They have won three in a row.

‘‘We had a good practice,’‘ Rose said. ‘‘Everybody seems focused. The coaching staff really [was] getting into it. They have been into it all year. We just need to feed into the offense.’‘
