D Rose suffers hip strain, should play tomorrow

Derrick’s first preseason came to an unceremonious close as he limped off the floor on Friday after a hard foul by the Nets Richard Jefferson near the rim. Derrick landed awkwardly and hobbled off the court, just 5 minutes into the match, but is listed as probably and should be ready to suit up in the Bull’s season opener on Tuesday.

“It’s nothing serious,” Rose said. “I could’ve gone back in, but they kept me out as a precaution. My leg was caught behind me, and all my momentum was going forward. I should be fine.”

Derrick rode the stationary bike after his fall, but did not return to the game. Derrick practiced at full speed on Sunday and is expected to be 100% for the opener. Despite ending the preseason on a down note, Derrick performed well in the exhibition games, and proved to the league that he can be a dynamic scorer as well as a successful point guard. Derrick averaged 13.9 points and five assists in the preseason, highlighted by his 30 point effort in the come from behind win over Dallas.
